Live streaming of September 1st keynote

Like in good old times, the live video of the keynote will be available online. Starting at 10:00 AM Cupertino time, you will able to follow the keynote on www.apple.com if you have a Mac running Mac OS Y 10.6 (Snow Leopard), an iPhone, an iPod Touch or an iPad running iOS 3 or later. Apple to stream event over HTML5 for iOS, Snow Leopard Macs

Apple provided a late surprise by revealing that it would stream its music event tomorrow through HTML5. The option will use the open HTTP Live Streaming format but, according to Apple, will need either iOS 3.0 or Mac OS X Snow Leopard or better to watch. The event starts at 1PM Eastern or 10AM Pacific and will be available through Apple.com....

First webOS 2.0 details include OS X-like Stacks

HP's Palm team today provided its first official glimpse at webOS 2.0, the next major revision of its OS. The core interface change revolves around Stacks; borrowing a small cue from Mac OS X Leopard's similarly named feature, it groups app 'cards' based on tasks to simplify switching. Apps that have been opened for related functions will now stay together; a browser used to open a link in e-mail will appear as part of the same Stack as the mail client, for example....

Plex/Nine, Plex for iOS near release

New versions of the Plex media player are en route for Mac and iOS devices, the developers have revealed. The updated Mac app is being dubbed Plex/Nine, and should be launched at midnight Eastern time. The major addition is a separate Media Manager for Snow Leopard, which should make it easier to populate Plex with content. It scans selected folders, and automatically assigns names, art and metadata to files using online databases....

Third Mac OS X 10.6.5 beta narrows down to one known issue

Apple today provided a third beta seed of Mac OS X 10.6.5 to developers, 10H531. The code is said to have just one known issue remaining, that being VMware. If the company's virtualization software is installed, it can potentially stop USB devices from working when a Mac emerges from sleep mode. Developers are otherwise being asked to focus testing on several areas, such as iCal, Mail, QuickTime, Time Machine and 3D rendering....

Apple posts fresh Leopard, Snow Leopard security updates

Apple has released a new security update, 2010-005. Four versions of the file are available, directed at the regular and Server editions of Leopard and Snow Leopard. Several vulnerabilities are fixed across all patches; these include ones with maliciously crafted fonts and PDF files, as well as remote attacks linked to the Samba cross-platform networking protocol. Another closed hole involves impersonating hosts with a slightly modified domain name....
